The Youth wing of Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) has submitted a memorandum to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, urging the formation of a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) into 1MDB.

Among others, the memorandum also calls on the Conference of Rulers to advise Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to relinquish his post with immediate effect in order for an investigation into 1MDB to be carried out without interference.

The Amanah Youth delegation headed by the wing's deputy chief Muhammad Faiz Fadzil submitted the memorandum to a palace official at Istana Negara in Kuala Lumpur this morning.

"We believe the RCI is crucial to restore the people's confidence and we are also asking for the Malay rulers to consider advising the PM to step down," Muhammad Faiz said.

"The PM is directly involved, since he is the finance minister and chairperson of the 1MDB (board of advisers). I believe his resignation is important," he added.

Meanwhile, Amanah Youth vice-chief Mohd Shazny Hamdan said similar memoranda would be submitted to the respective state sultans and governors.

"The RCI must be set up immediately because the people cannot wait any longer," Mohd Shazny said.

Previously, the Conference of Rulers called for the 1MDB probe to be completed as soon as possible and warned the government of a confidence crisis.

Certain quarters interpreted this as the rulers having lost confidence in Najib's leadership, which Umno leaders have denied.
