Fama to get ready food kits for floods
The Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Ministry, through the Federal Agriculture Marketing Authority (Fama), will provide first food kits to victims of disaster, especially floods, nationwide during this year's monsoon season.
Its minister, Ahmad Shabery Cheek, said the food kits, comprising mostly ready-to-eat food, would be distributed as soon as the victims arrived at relief centres.
"This will be the first ready-to-eat food that they shall receive, which include bread and jam, 'sambal bilis' and biscuits...which they can eat while waiting for the proper meals to be prepared at the relief centres," he told reporters after closing the Kemaman Flood Simulation Programme today.
Ahmad Shabery, who is also Kemaman Member of Parliament, said 40,000 food kits would be prepared at 76 relief centres in Kemaman alone, in view of possible floods at end of this year.
However, said the actual allocation for the food kit programme had yet to be finalised.
