PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail today ticked off her PKR fellow MP Mohamad Imran Abdul Hamid (Lumut) for being simplistic and unfair for assuming that sexy attire of athletes may lead to illicit sex .

"That was his opinion. It was very simplistic to say that," she said after chairing Pakatan Harapan leadership meeting.

"As Muslims, we have our rules that Muslims have to (dress in) decent attire. Any decent attire has to be accepted. I don't think you should blame this and that.

"I think there were instances where some women who were fully clothed also fell victims (to illicit sex). I don't think his (Imran’s) statement is fair," Wan Azizah ( photo ) said when asked to respond to Imran's remarks.

"You must understand he was an admiral who has been at sea (most of the time)," she said when asked if Imran was a male chauvinist or need to be educated on gender equality.

On Monday, Imran told the Dewan Rakyat that “sexy dressing” of participants in Sukma Games and Fit Malaysia may lead to illicit sex ( zina ).

"The participants wear sexy, arousing clothes and mix freely (both sexes), so we fear that this might lead to zina," said Imran, who brought the matter up to the attention of Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin.

But Khairy said there was no evidence the sports programmes could lead to fornication.

Criticism from netizens

Meanwhile, DAP whip Anthony Loke said Kepong MP Tan Seng Giaw had explained why he missed the voting on Budget 2016 in the Dewan Rakyat.

"We have asked for his explanation and he has explained," he said.

"He said (due to) some miscommunication, he was not able to make it. He did try to reach (the House) when the voting ended," said Loke (DAP-Seremban).

He, however, said the party would not take disciplinary action against Tan as he did attempt to make it to the House.

Tan claimed he missed the voting because he was watching a live television programme on the Paris attack.

DAP has accepted Tan's explanation, said Loke.

He said Tan had to face criticism from netizens after Malaysiakini carried the story.

"We reminded our MPs to be more punctual for voting. I think individual MPs should face criticism if they failed to come for voting," said Loke, who is also DAP organising secretary.
