The police have yet to receive any word on the alleged pen drive in the possession of Charles Suresh Morais, the brother of a murdered senior deputy public prosecutor.

Inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar said this is despite giving the US-based businessman the option of sending the gadget to him by post.

"Earlier, I made a statement that Charles can mail the pen drive directly to my office if he is serious about his claims.

"He can choose this option if he is concerned about his safety and does not wish to return to Malaysia to have his statement recorded," Khalid told Malaysiakini today.

Alternatively, Khalid said, the businessman could send the pen drive to his Malaysian lawyer, Americk Sidhu, who in turn could pass it to the police.

Khalid reiterated that the contents of the pen drive are crucial to the investigations into the explosive claims made by Charles in a statutory declaration.

"Without knowing the contents, and in the absence of his statement, we only have a slew of allegations. Nothing more.

"So, if he is serious about the claims, Charles should assist us," he said.

Asked if the police would dispatch a team to the US to meet Charles, Khalid reiterated that this was being looked into.

"We will give him some time to respond and then decide on the next course of action," he said.

Charles told Malaysiakini previously that he would consult his legal team before deciding on whether to expose the pen drive that he has.

'A conspiracy behind the murder'

The businessman has yet to respond to a subsequent email sent to him last Thursday on the progress regarding this issue.

In his SD, Charles claimed there could be a conspiracy behind the brutal murder of his brother Kevin Anthony Morais.

He also claimed to have received a pen drive from Kevin prior to his death, and that the pen drive contained details on the cases Kevin was working on.

Charles also alleged that Kevin told him he was working on cases involving Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and his wife Rosmah Mansor.

According to Charles, Kevin had also penned his initials on a purported charge sheet against Najib.

The authorities have dismissed the charge sheet, exposed by whistleblower website Sarawak Report , as fake.

Eight people, including an army doctor with the rank of colonel, have been charged in connection with Kevin's murder.
