Two Malaysians suicide bombers blew themselves up, killing 33 in the Middle East recently, reported the New Straits Times (NST) today.

Terengganu-born Mohd Amirul Ahmad Rahim, 26 and Selangorian Mohamad Syazwan Mohd Salim, 31, carried out missions for the Islamic State (IS) terrorist group in Syria and Iraq respectively.

This brings the deaths of Malaysians linked to IS to 17.

Amirul detonated the bomb he had on him in a car in Raqqa, Syria, against the Syrian Democratic Forces coalition on Dec 29, killing 21 Kurdish fighters.

Amirul reportedly had left his family to join IS in October 2014. He was among 16 fighters killed by Arab and Kurdish forces.

On the night of Jan 3, Syazwan and six others went to a police training centre at Spekher military base, 160km from Baghdad.

They were shot by the police, whom they had targeted. However, they managed to detonate their suicide vests and killed 12 policemen, including two officers, according to a source.

Syazwan had left home with his 28-year-old brother Muhamad Shazani to join the terrorist group in September 2014.
