Selayang Hospital air-con system under repair

Work on one of the five chiller systems of the central air-conditioning at the Selayang Hospital which broke down since 5pm on Jan 14 is expected to up and running soon.

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, in a statement today, said maintenance and repair work was being carried out and the central air-conditioning system was expected to function as normal on Wednesday (Jan 20).

"The management will closely monitor the temperature at all critical locations and other locations and the progress of repair work by the Hospital Support Service," he said.

He said several steps were being taken by the management to ensure the security and comfort of patients, visitors and staff.

Among others, non-emergency/elective surgeries on Jan 15 and 16 had to be postponed and rescheduled, he said.

Noor Hisham said mobile air-conditioners had been installed at operation theatres and critical units and fans were stationed at strategic spots to ensure the surroundings were at the stipulated temperate.

To date, 19 mobile air-conditioners, 50 fans and five coolers had been distributed and 25 additional mobile air-conditioners would be distributed soon, he said.

Noor Hisham said to avoid putting off elective surgeries next week the centralised air-conditioning system would be channeled optimally via the load-shedding method so that the temperature would be more stable at critical areas such as operation theatres, maternity wards and Intensive Care Unit.

He said two new rented chillers which were installed today, were expected to be operational by Jan 19 (Tuesday).
