Following the poor showing at the 2013 general election, Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak slammed Selangor Umno for misleading him into believing there was a reasonable chance for the party to reclaim the state.

Commenting on this, Selangor Umno liaison chief Noh Omar blamed the party's indulgence in showing that they indeed enjoyed strong support.

This led the prime minister into believing they had a fair chance to recapture the state, he lamented.

"Yes, the deception was due to Umno’s culture in organising mega events where strong crowd of 10,000 attended.

"But when we checked, they are the same group of people (who attended different events at different times).

“If I want to mobilise (the crowd), what is so hard about it? We want every division (Selangor has 22 divisions) to send 20 buses (and this can be done) - just provide money and buses, and they will send the people.

"We were able to gather 10,000 members to a venue, the next week and the next month another 10,000 – but the same group of people came, what for?" he said.

"That was why Datuk Seri Najib said we had cheated him," said Noh, who is also the current Selangor BN chairperson.

However, the Tanjung Karang MP said other parties too have the culture of mobilising the crowd to show their strength.

"The approaches taken by any party is the same, thousands will show up for their programmes to show support. This is normal, not just BN," he told Malaysiakini and KiniTV in an interview.

In August 2015, Najib reportedly accused the Selangor Umno and BN for misleading him by showing him a graph that revealed Umno enjoyed strong support in certain areas and was confident of winning in the last polls.

"We organised a programme which saw 30,000 turn up and we thought they would vote for us. But as the saying goes, it was a waste of time," Najib was quoted by Rakyat Post .

Najib subsequently urged Selangor Umno not be too self-indulgent. He said he would assist Selangor BN to reclaim the state government and was confident this would happen.

On this note, Noh said Selangor BN would aim to take 30 state seats out of 56 in the next general election.

"Our principle is to win 30 seats, that's enough. We have no intention to win two-thirds, we only target 30 seats," he said.

Different approaches, such as organising events on a smaller scale, will be used to reach out to the voters, he added.

Instead of resorting to condemning its rival, he said the opposition would also propagate the benefits of BN helming the state government.

"The people would feel disgusted if we only find faults," Noh added.

'DAP the bus driver, PKR only a conductor'

At the interview, Noh Omar accused Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali of being a puppet of DAP.

"DAP is the bus driver in Selangor, while PKR only a conductor.”

He said this was based on DAP being the strongest party in Selangor – it has 15 seats while PKR has 13, PAS, 13, and Amanah, 2.

He said PKR would be unable to stop the mushrooming of massage parlours, entertainment centres and other vice activities if DAP were to oppose them.

"I hope the people can assess the leadership and policies of Pakatan and BN. The state government is 'cacamerba' (in a mess) - PAS announced DAP as its enemy, the Islamic party cannot work with Amanah," he said.

Meanwhile, Noh also slammed the state government for not doing enough to attract foreign direct investments (FDI).

Citing the latest FDI statistics released by Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) in November 2015 which saw Selangor (RM5.9 billion from January to September) falling behind Malacca (RM6.8 billion), he said the Selangor state government should be ashamed of this.

"Selangor is a developed state, but how developed it is? Selangor is now number four in terms of FDI, behind Johor, Sarawak and even Malacca.

"Malacca is just a small state. Where is Selangor's dignity? Maybe they want many to go unemployed. When this happens, the federal government will be blamed.”
