Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar has declined to answer further questions on the RM107 million embezzlement case in his ministry.

He said he has already answered about this issue extensively in Parliament as well as two press conferences , and now is the time to let investigations take its course.

“Now it is subject to investigation, let the investigations take place.

"(There are) two investigations - one by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), and one by the independent task force headed by the attorney-general,” he told reporters in Kuala Lumpur today.

Khairy said this when asked how the embezzlement had supposedly taken place over the course of five years without it being detected earlier.

To another question, Khairy said he has also briefed the cabinet on this issue, and the cabinet has taken note that investigations are ongoing.

The MACC previously revealed that it has arrested nine individuals on March 17 on suspicion of being involved in a syndicate that has been misappropriating state funds since 2010.

The mastermind is said to be a 56-year-old divisional chief secretary in the Youth and Sports Ministry, who has been living a lavish lifestyle with the RM20 million in kickbacks he had received.

Khairy had previously pledged to take responsibility for the matter by aiding the MACC in ensuring a transparent investigation, and to improve checks and balance within the ministry, but has shot down urgings for his resignation.
