Covering his ears, Deputy Home Minister Nur Jazlan Mohamed cautioned the National Registration Department (NRD) that he does not want to hear about graft cases amongst its officers.

To drive home the point, he also cited the RM100 million embezzlement scam which rocked the Youth and Sports Ministry recently.

"NRD's allocation is more or less the same as the Youth Ministry. But there are still crocodiles who can 'cari makan' (earn a living) there," he told the NRD staff in Putrajaya this morning.

While he congratulated NRD for being awarded a five-star rating from the government, Nur Jazlan however said the public still do not have confidence in the integrity of civil servants.

"I (must) say that (NRD) getting a five-star rating is not everything because there's still the public perception about civil servants like corruption (in the civil service),” he added.

Nur Jazlan stressed that he did not want corruption to occur in the NRD, which falls under the purview of the Home Ministry.

"I don't want to hear corruption in the NRD or other departments," he added.

He argued that it was pointless for NRD to enjoy the highest recognition while civil servants fail to win the hearts and minds of the people.

"If you love NRD and the ministry, you will surely stop the saboteurs," he said.

Later, Nur Jazlan revealed that the Home Ministry employed psychometric tests to improve the integrity of those in key positions.

"Personnel with a tendency to be involved with bribery, we don't put them in (the senior officers) pond.

"We do psychometric tests on our staff who will be promoted to important positions," he added.

Former secretary of the Youth and Sports Ministry's finance division, Otman Arsahd, 57, has been charged over the scandal.
