STAR to field businessman in Bukit Assek
The opposition State Reform Party (STAR) is to field a businessman in the Bukit Assek seat in the upcoming 11th Sarawak state election.
STAR’s newly-elected president Lina Soo today named the candidate as Moh Hiong King, 46.
The party announced in January that it would field Simon Tiong Ing Tung, 48, in Nangka and Adam Wong Sing Wei in Bawang Assan.
Soo, who took over from the late Dr Patau Rubis, said STAR would also contest the Pelawan and Dudong seats, and would name the candidates before nomination day.
She also said STAR proposed to contest in 30 seats and appealed for public funding.
Sarawak Barisan Nasional chairperson Adenan Satem announced last week that the BN would field Chieng Buong Toon of SUPP in Bukit Assek.
The DAP is to field Irene Chang, widow of its former state chairperson Wong Ho Leng.
The Election Commission has scheduled a meeting for Thursday to decide on the dates for nomination and polling, following the dissolution of the state legislative assembly yesterday.
The state election will see contest for 82 seats, 11 more than in the 2011 election, following the redelineation of electoral boundaries.
