Perlis Menteri Besar Azlan Man said the state government had not been informed about the coming of Zakir Naik to give a lecture in the state.

He said he only found out about it through the social media, but no one had come forward to discuss the matter.

“Good things should not be rejected, but I will listen to the opinions of various parties, including the on the safety aspects if it is held at Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Stadium in Kangar,” Azlan told reporters at his office in Kangar today.

The menteri besar was commenting on reports in the social media regarding efforts to bring Zakir to give a lecture in Perlis, in replacement of the lecture which was disallowed by the Malacca government.

Perlis mufti, Assoc Prof Dr Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin, was quoted on social media site Facebook, that Zakir’s coming to the state had received the blessings of Raja Muda Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, as the head of the Perlis Islamic Religious Council.

Azlan said the state government, however, needed to wait for feedback from Zakir, because so far, only one side (Dr Mohd Asri) had made the announcement.
