Muhyiddin blasts Azalina in her own backyard

Former deputy prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin today roasted Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Azalina Othman in her own backyard of Pengerang.

He took issue with Azalina declaring that the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) report on 1MDB had cleared Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak of wrongdoing despite the document highlighting that the premier was responsible for approving the company's deals and billions in ringgit are still unaccounted for.

"It showed many wrongdoing.

"How can the prime minister, as well as the minister who is supposedly in charge of law (sic), what was her name, Azalina - say that there was no wrongdoing, can she read?" he told a ceramah to Umno grassroots members in Pengerang, Johor today.

Muhyiddin went on to remind Azalina that it was he who had created a platform for her political career.

"When I was (Johor) menteri besar, Azalina wasn't even here.

"She became Umno Puteri chief because I encouraged her. I set up Umno Puteri and had the party constitution amended.

"But she has forgotten. Malays forget easily, including your division chief," he said.

Azalina is Pengerang MP and also Pengerang Umno division chief.

Contrary to the government's assertion, Muhyiddin ( photo ) said the PAC report found at least US$7 billion of 1MDB's funds was unaccounted for and urged people to read the report on their own.

"Who approved the transactions? Najib had to approve all the transactions," he said.

He pointed out that the PAC found that unlike normal companies, all key dealings by 1MDB had to be approved by the company's board of advisers chairperson, who was Najib.

"This RM28 billion (US$7 billion) could not have left the country without Najib's approval.

"So where had the money gone to? Can he explain?" he said.

Najib's lawyer gets blasted too

Muhyiddin also blasted Najib's lawyer Hafarizam Harun's claim that the prime minister merely signed off on the deals and had no idea of the details.

Muhyiddin said prior to his removal as deputy prime minister in July last year, he had already urged Najib to relinquish the position of 1MDB board of advisers chairperson but to no avail.

He added that the PAC's finding which said Najib should not hold the position and the board of advisers should be abolished validated his criticism.

On a related matter, Muhyiddin criticised Kelantan mufti Shukri Mohamad for suggesting that he and former premier Mahathir Mohamad had gone against Islam in their criticism of Najib.

"The Kelantan mufti recently made his own fatwa that supposed my actions and that of former prime minister Mahathir Mohamad have gone against religion.

"Because he said compared to Majapahit tyrannical rule, Najib was not as tyrannical as that. Why compare to Majapahit?

"I criticised a leader who had done wrong, that is not a wrong. Even though I must be loyal, I am loyal to Umno. I will not be loyal to a leader who is at wrong," he said.
