The police have taken security measures to ensure public order and safety, as well as smooth the process of the 11th Sarawak state election.

Sarawak police commissioner Muhammad Sabtu Osman said preparations to that effect had been made by the state police since January and they would be assisted by 4,800 police personnel from the peninsula and Sabah.

A total of 1,400 trainees from the Royal Malaysia Police Training Centre in Kuching will also be mobilised for the purpose, he told reporters after visiting the Sarawak Hospital's Heart centre in Kota Samarahan today.

On the application to hold ceramah (talk) during the election campaign, he said the police, with the cooperation of the Election Commission (EC), would call candidates contesting for the election to brief them on the matter after the nomination process.

He said a media centre would be opened at the Sarawak police headquarters at Jalan Badruddin in Kuching and would begin operation this Friday.
