PAC report’s deletion not a mistake but deliberate attempt

YOURSAY | 'Is Tan kidding himself? Hasan's deletion a mistake and not a deliberate attempt...'

PAC deputy chief: Other MPs can refer Hasan to privileges committee

MinahBulat: Public Accounts Committee (PAC) deputy chairperson Tan Seng Giaw, I take objection to your word "mistake" in referring to chairperson Hasan Arifin’s deletion of the two crucial sentences from the PAC report.

A mistake is something that is wrong but was not deliberately done. The PAC, as I understand, had agreed to the working draft. So on what authority did Hasan unilaterally amend the working draft?

How can that be a mistake when he had no authority to do so? The PAC report has to be signed off by the PAC members and the removal of the sentences was detected later.

Tan, this was no mistake but a deliberate attempt to defraud the other PAC members and ultimately the public. Hasan must be referred to a parliamentary select committee for his dastardly act.

Ghostwhowalks: Is Tan kidding himself? Hasan's deletion is only a mistake and not a deliberate attempt to conceal vital and crucial information?

The whole crux of the matter is if Good Star Ltd is not related to Abu Dhabi-based International Petroleum Investment Company (IPIC), then the transfer of US$700 million to Good Star on the premise of paying IPIC as part of a joint venture becomes a grand siphoning of bogus monies.

Prudent: Tan is already talking like an Umno member.

I quote him when answering why a PAC member like him cannot refer the chairperson of the PAC to the rights and privileges committee, since there is no standing order against it:

"In a society, if a person admits he had done something (wrong), do you whack him further? You don’t, do you"?

DAP, please get Tan out as deputy chairperson of the PAC fast before you lose credibility.

Ronald: I could not agree more with 'Prudent'. Tan took over the Kepong seat from the very illustrious Tan Chee Koon and I have to say, Chee Koon would have been most disappointed with his successor.

Rupert16: Mistake? Come on, Tan, don't make me laugh. It is a deliberate attempt by Mr Cari Makan (Hasan) to conceal the truth that can unravel the RM2.6 billion "donation" story.

About whacking, if Najib admitted his "mistake" in accepting corruption money, then we couldn't whack him anymore. Is this what you are also inferring?

Wong Fei Hoong: Tan, do you mean that once a person has admitted that he is wrong, it means no further action can be taken against him?

The issue here is why did he deliberately remove that sentence without the consent of the committee?

So what you meant was if somebody stole something and admitted he did it, no further action would be taken against him? You must be crazy.

MariKitaUbah: Hasan is talking rubbish when he said the deleted line was "... not for public consumption".

We are taxpayers and our money has allegedly gone into somebody's personal bank account. What nonsense are you talking about?

We want those guilty punished.

Justine Gow: "Not for public consumption?" I thought the reason for having a PAC is to give a clear and transparent account of the 1MDB scandal.

Someone is playing God in deciding what is or is not for public consumption.

Rupert16: If Mr Cari Makan thinks that the deletion of the two sentences will in " no way affect " the final report, why take the trouble to delete the sentences on his own in the first place? Very fishy, isn't it?

Anonymous_1400899800: A "mistake" is done unknowingly, but if an action is done knowingly, what is it called?

PTH: We should not lower the accountability bar for politicians who are supposed to lead and set good examples.

Hasan should not have taken it upon himself to surreptitiously delete any text from the PAC report which had been approved by all the PAC members.

Censuring him for such an unethical act is not only necessary but justified as a matter of record.

Shovelnose: Although it will not make an iota of difference in terms of affirmative action, please reinstate the deleted sentences immediately to reflect the unanimity of the PAC as a whole, and stand to be judged in history.

Otherwise, you are all a party to it, slap on wrist or not.

Anonymous #40538199: I propose that the House takes action against any person who becomes MP for the purpose of ‘cari makan’.
