EC: S’wak nomination to wrap up in one hour
S'WAK POLLS The entire nomination process for the 11th Sarawak state election is expected to be finalised by one hour since there will be no objection period, announced the Election Commission (EC).
EC chairperson Mohd Hashim Abdullah said nomination centres throughout the state would take only one hour, from 9am to 10am, to process the nomination forms and once their registration was finalised, an announcement would be made immediately.
Mohd Hashim said as of 5pm yesterday, 971 sets of nomination forms were sold throughout the state; 443 were sold at the EC office in Kuching, 178 in Sibu zone, 172 sets in Miri zone, 124 in Kuching zone, and 54 sets in the Sri Aman zone.
"The EC has issued 1,146 media passes to local media practitioners. No media passes were issued for foreign media," he told reporters at the Sarawak EC office in Kuching today.
Mohd Hashim said when submitting the nomination forms, only three people - candidate, proposer and seconder - would be allowed into the nomination centre while supporters would be required to remain at least 50m away from the nomination centre.
He added that the campaigning period for the 11th Sarawak state election would begin after nominations are closed on April 25 and end at the stroke of midnight (May 6).
Mohd Hashim said an enforcement team had been formed to monitor activities during the campaigning period.
The state legislative assembly of Malaysia's largest state, Sarawak, was dissolved on April 11, paving the way for a state-wide election.
Meanwhile, the EC will use indelible ink which was first introduced during the 2013 general election, to prevent electoral fraud.
