PAS election director Mustafa Ali blamed DAP and Amanah for giving PKR deputy president Azmin Ali headache during seat negotiations.

This comes after Azmin, in an exclusive interview with the Oriental Daily, lamented that it was difficult to communicate with PAS over seat negotiations.

Mustafa said based on his past experience, talks with Azmin over the allocation of seats (for election purposes) had been smooth.

“In the past, I had no big problems holding direct talks with Azmin. He represents PKR, I represent PAS,” he told Malaysiakini when contacted.

However, things have become complicated with Azmin now representing the one-year-old Pakatan Harapan, according to Mustafa.

“(Now) problems have emerged with Azmin representing Harapan, and not just PKR. This may be a little (more) challenging. His partners in Harapan are making things difficult for him.

“He (Azmin) can't give a final say (on behalf of) Harapan partners... (because) later Amanah will say (something else).”

Asked whether DAP and Amanah – PKR's Pakatan Harapan allies – have been giving Azmin headache, Mustafa replied:

“Yes. Yes. This makes it difficult for him (Azmin). (But) if it is direct negotiation between PKR and PAS, this shouldn't be a problem.”

According to Oriental Daily, Azmin had insisted that the opposition front must reach consensus after having lost to BN in the recent twin by-elections in Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar because of infighting.

Azmin admitted that he was having a hard time talking to PAS.

“I can accept different opinions. But it should not go to the extent of destroying an opposition alliance... It is not an easy task to form an alliance. PAS and DAP could sit together which has never happened before.

“I am a little bit disappointed because I see some PAS top leaders have forgotten the basic principle of alliance.

“This is dangerous. We should have mutual respect to defend our principles and ideology.”

After the demise of Pakatan Rakyat, the progressive faction of PAS, which lost in the party election, broke away and formed splinter party Amanah.

Amanah forged an alliance with DAP and PKR under the banner of Pakatan Harapan.

However, PAS's relationship with Amanah and DAP has since turned sour although it maintains cooperation with PKR.
