Pakatan Harapan is determined to correct its weaknesses to regain the support it has once enjoyed, said opposition leader Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

At a press conference after chairing the Pakatan Harapan presidential council meeting, Wan Azizah identified the three-cornered fights at previous polls as one of the weaknesses.

She said the coalition will work to strike a one-to-one contest with BN in the next polls.

"The presidential council has strengthened our resolve today that various weaknesses needed to be tackled as soon as possible so (we can) prioritise the importance of the people," Wan Azizah said.

"We decided to hold close consultation among the three parties soon to scrutinise the strategies in Harapan in order to regain support from the people."

The presidential council also decided that Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng need not take rest over his corruption charges as it was a political persecution meant to strengthen the position of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, she said.

PKR and DAP clashed in six seats in the Sarawak polls in May.

There were also multi-cornered fights in the Kuala Kangsar and Sungai Besar by-elections, involving Pakatan Harapan party Amanah, PAS and BN, as well as an independent candidate in Kuala Kangsar.

PKR deputy president Azmin Ali had reportedly before that tried to broker a deal with PAS to avoid such clashes in the by-elections, which were won by BN with large majorities.
