COMMENT Au-yang Su Kon (not her real name) stared gloomily at her newborn baby boy at Sungai Buloh Hospital when we paid her a visit.

Her baby was suffering from spina bifida, a condition that required an urgent operation, but being a single mother and left alone on her own in Malaysia, she did not have the money to pay for the surgery.

She was a friend to another Myanmar lady who was teaching at a school which a friend conducts for migrant children, whose families are on transit to a third country.
