Former Umno Batu Kawan vice-chief Khairuddin Abu Hassan has blasted blogger Raja Petra Kamaruddin's revelations of the meeting between former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad and the Agong as fabrication.

Khairuddin in a statement called Raja Petra a "liar", claiming that even he was not privy to the details of the Friday meeting despite accompanying Mahathir to the Anak Bukit palace in Alor Setar to have an audience with Yang Di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah.

Raja Petra on his blog had detailed what he claimed were events that transpired in the said meeting, detailing the alleged royal conversation.

The fugitive blogger claimed the Agong had asked Mahathir if he could guarantee the authenticity of all of the 1.4 million signatures in the Citizens' Declaration petition, which called for Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's resignation.

"Mahathir was clearly not prepared for this and hence did not rehearse his response because he was quite stunned and remained quiet for a few minutes.

"You could see that Mahathir was searching for words and finally, after some pause, he replied these were what was given to him.

"In other words, Mahathir is saying he cannot guarantee anything because it was not he who gathered the signatures but someone else did and this was what they gave him.

"The Agong then just gave a wry smile because the way Mahathir answered was not convincing and was definitely noncommittal.

"His Majesty then looked at Mahathir who just looked down and nothing more was said about the Citizens’ Declaration or the 1.4 million signatures," claimed Raja Petra in the posting titled "What Khairuddin did not reveal regarding Mahathir's meeting with the Agong".

Eyes and ears from London?

Khairuddin, a Mahathir loyalist, said it was incredulous that Raja Petra could have had knowledge of the private meeting without third parties present.

"The meeting on that day was only between the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong and Mahathir without anyone else.

"I admit I accompanied Mahathir to the Anak Bukit palace, but even I do not know the details of the discussion between the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong and Mahathir and I can guarantee no one else knows what was discussed.

"It is laughable that this person by the name of 'Raja Petra the liar' who is in the United Kingdom, can know every word of the discussion between the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong and Mahathir," he said.

Khairuddin demanded Raja Petra return to Malaysia to face him directly instead of making allegations from afar.

He also questioned Raja Petra's credibility, pointing out the latter had issued a statement of regret after Sarawak Report editor Clare Rewcastle Brown threatened him with a defamation suit.

"He is not qualified to comment about the country's recent political developments, when he doesn't even dare return to Malaysia and is living in exile," he said.

Raja Petra was in 2008 detained under the Internal Security Act (ISA) 1960 for allegedly insulting Islam, but was freed after 56 days when the Kuala Lumpur High Court ruled the government had acted outside its powers in imposing the detention.

He went into self-imposed exile in the UK after the government appealed the decision.

The detention order has since lapsed and the ISA was also repealed in 2012, however the blogger has remained abroad.
