Rulers could at least declare loss of faith in Najib, says MP

The least the Council of Rulers can do is to declare lack of faith in Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, said PAS' Pokok Sena MP Mahfuz Omar.

He urged the rulers to consider this at their meeting on Oct 11, given 1.2 million Malaysians reportedly signed the Citizens' Declaration calling for Najib to step down.

"It is difficult for the Council of Rulers, and the Yang di-Pertuan Agong specifically, to sack Najib, the least they can do is to acknowledge the content of the Citizens' Declaration which has been signed by 1.2 million Malaysians who say they have lost faith in the PM.

"(The Council of Rulers can acknowlege the Citizens' Declaration) but state that they cannot act to terminate him because of legal constraints...

"This would be enough to sooth the rakyat who long believe there is no separation between the king and his subjects," he said in a statement.

Former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad yesterday said the Save Malaysia coalition has sent a letter to the Council of Rulers containing the Citizens' Declaration.

This after Mahathir met with the Agong over the matter last month.

Following the audience, Najib released a statement saying that the Agong told Mahathir he "cannot be involved" because it is unconstitutional.

Constitutional expert Abdul Aziz Bari, however, questioned why Najib is speaking on Agong's behalf.
