Fake cabinet list; Iskandar region 'independence'; Rohingya rally nudged OIC

KINI ROUNDUP Here are the key headlines you may have missed yesterday, in brief.

Fake cabinet list slammed

DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang has denounced a cabinet line-up being circulated on social media, which names him as prime minister and former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad as his deputy if the opposition seizes federal power, describing it as “Nazi-styled” propaganda.

However, some people have commented, that the "false news" aside, the tenacious Lim is better suited as attorney-general to bring to justice all former prime ministers to ensure they get their just desserts.

Lim also questioned if an anonymous 1MDB booklet, which he claimed was circulated at the Umno Annual General Assembly last week, titled “1MDB Pasca Laporan Audit Negara dan PAC - Saman DOJ Meragukan” was the work of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak - and who paid for it.

Iskandar region 'independence'

Mahathir warned that the advent of some 1.5 million foreigners, mainly from China, who will live in Johor's new Iskandar Region, may lead to complications, the most dire of which is the area being overrun by the foreigners and potential secession, just like what happened to Singapore when its racial population mix threatened to unbalance the federation.

Mahathir’s lawyer Mohamed Haniff Khatri Abdulla launched a salvo against Rizal Mansor, the aide to the prime minister’s wife Rosmah Mansor, for lambasting his client over the alleged reference to Prophet Muhammad.

A police report has also been lodged against the former PM for his remark allegedly likening Najib to the Prophet Muhammad during the DAP national convention, when raising the RM2.6 billion donation.

Rally for Rohingyas nudged OIC

Najib said the strong voice of Malaysians aduring the Ummah Solidarity Gathering for the Rohingyas at the Titiwangsa Stadium last Sunday attracted the attention of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, with the body tipped to hold a foreign ministers meeting to discuss the Rohingya issue soon.

A coalition of some 500 Malay-Muslim NGOs has called on Buddhist monks in Malaysia to state their stand on a demonstration held by their counterparts in Myanmar last Saturday against Najib’s alleged interference in the Rohingya issue.

Though in a twist, instead of a strongly-worded diplomatic statement on the matter, Najib reportedly sent Armed Forces chief General Zulkifeli Mohd Zin to mend fences with Myanmar following the row over Sunday's rally, the Myanmar Times reported.

More Kinibites

Instead of setting up a task force to investigate Sarawak Report, the whistleblower website's editor Clare Rewcastle-Brown has challenged Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to probe the US Federal Bureau of Investigation, which is investigating the very same thing she had been reporting on.

With less than a month remaining before flying off to Zurich for the 2016 Fifa Puskas Award ceremony, Penang footballer Mohd Faiz Subri still remains focused on training with his Harimau Kumbang teammates, as he is still waiting for the green light from Football Association of Malaysia and the Football Association of Penang before making his final preparations.

With the spotlight now on foreign funding, former Bar Council president Ambiga Sreenevasan has demanded that Deputy Home Minister Nur Jazlan Mohamed provides an explanation on the RM2.6 billion Saudi donation issue, which she noted was said to be for election purposes.
