A website containing tantalising allegations against senior police officers who had conspired with fugitive Michael Soosai revealed how he 'bought' influence in the police force.

The eighteen-page document, including scanned copies of police reports and internal correspondence, were posted on the website with the heading Michael Soosai - A soul resting in peace.

It also made allegations of corruption and abuse of power within the police force revealed the identities of more than a dozen officers allegedly involved with Soosai.

The document related how Soosai became influential in Kajang district when he began operating as a money lender and befriended senior police officers there.

The few senior officers were said to have worked with members of the underworld to protect Soosai's criminal activities.

In one case, a person wanted by the police for involvement in a murder case was said to have sought Soosai's help.

The website claimed that Soosai had promised to bring that person to see the police on a condition that he would not be arrested. His appearance with the fugitive at the Kajang police station was said to have amazed the personnel there.

The wanted person was not arrested and the website claimed that Soosai had then brought the person to meet his son who was in a police lock-up in Kuala Lumpur.

Other malpractices

In another incident, Soosai was said to have called up the police, instructing them not to send an investigation team to a doctor's clinic.

The doctor had sought Soosai's help after a police report was lodged against the former for alleged sexual liaison with a family member.

Soosai's influence in Selangor was said to have ruffled the feathers of several top cops in Kuala Lumpur to the extent that the cops there were said to have 'strike a deal' with a fugitive's wife to lodge a false police report against Soosai for attempting to kill her and her husband - in order to save her fugitive husband.

There were also several allegations of malpractices contained in the website, such as a police officer being allegedly bribed RM20,000 to 'rent' a document classified under the Official Secrets Act to a mole, whom the police thought was a reporter with an international magazine.

The said documents were displayed at the website.

Another allegation was that a police officer had tore the police report lodged by a girl against a money lender from the report book. The officer also reprimanded the girl and threatened her by accusing her of trying to blackmail the money lender.

However, the police officer concerned was referred to the disciplinary division later as the girl had an uncle linked with Umno, according to the website.

Over the past few weeks, malaysiakini efforts to contact the person in charge of the website, a Dr N Mahadevan, by email have failed to elicit any response.

'An avid writer'

Deputy Inspector-General of Police Musa Hassan was quoted in several newspapers as saying today that the allegations on the website and the police personnel named therein would be investigated .

"This is a serious matter as it involves the distribution of classified materials," Musa said.

He also did not rule out the possibility that senior police officers could have been implicated as a retaliatory act against those involved in the Soosai investigation.

The Star quoted police sources as saying that investigations were underway to ascertain whether the website was created by Soosai, described as an "avid writer", to 'derail' ongoing investigation after police started to arrest his family members.

Soosai, who was reported to have faked his own death two years ago, is wanted in connection with 17 criminal cases since the 1980s. He is suspected to be hiding in south India.

After more that a month of investigations, three men and a woman (Soosai's wife) were charged in court recently for forgery and cheating on Soosai's death.
