Pakatan Harapan and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) submitted a joint memorandum to the US Embassy today to demand the retraction of the US immigration travel ban.

The travel ban implemented by President Donald Trump on the citizens of seven Muslim-majority countries is now referred to as the "Muslim ban".

"This executive order, a form of blanket discrimination, is mean-spirited, divisive, inhumane and a breach of human rights."

The memorandum was submitted by DAP's Pasir Pinji assemblyperson Howard Lee Chuan How to representatives of the US Embassy in Kuala Lumpur.

"This executive order would create further division among people of the world of different religions and origins," reads the memorandum.

The opposition parties and supporters also demonstrated opposite the US Embassy prior to the submission of the memorandum.

“We are not here to protest in hatred. We are here to demonstrate love and to show that it’s possible to demonstrate solidarity,” Lee said at the demonstration.

As stated in the memorandum, the opposition parties also called upon Trump to “stop any measure that would discriminate against the most vulnerable people in the world based on ethnicity, country of origin, religion, gender”.

They also want the US president to “restore hope in the lives of those whose home and country have been taken and seized by warfare and aggression instigated or perpetuated by actors of war”.

Referring to the government’s lack of response regarding the "Muslim ban", socio-political activist Marina Mahathir said the government should be questioned.

“You should ask him (prime minister) or ask our foreign minister,” Marina told the media.

DAP’s Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua, who was also present, called upon Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to give his opinion regarding this issue because it has been days since the ban has been implemented.

“He doesn’t dare to protest against the US and President Donald Trump because he depends on their generosity, to ensure that the 1MDB case will not be brought to court in the US,” he said.

On the contrary, DAP's Bilut assemblyperson Chow Yu Hui disagreed yesterday on the opposition’s protest against the travel ban as people in Malaysia still agree with banning the entry of Israeli athletes.

PAS Youth has also submitted a memorandum to the US Embassy yesterday and it did not show any interest in collaborating with the opposition on the matter.
