DAP's behaviour will cause calamity for Pakatan Harapan by creating opportunities for BN to attack the opposition coalition, said PAS vice-president Idris Ahmad.

This was mostly due to Kuching MP Chong Chieng Jen's recent call for the state government to stop recruiting Islamic religious teachers from Peninsula Malaysia. Chong is the leader of Sarawak DAP.

"DAP's antics heralds a dark future for the opposition. Chong, who talked about restricting religious teachers from the Peninsula, will give more Umno and BN more confidence.

"DAP is setting the bait for Umno and BN. This is not a smart move," said Idris when met at the sidelines of the Titiwangsa PAS annual general meeting in Kuala Lumpur today.

He said DAP's allies would be affected by this as their allies would be contesting in Muslim majority areas.

PAS unaffected

On March 15, Chong had spoke against Sarawak's plan to import some 400 Islamic education teachers on grounds that it would affect religious harmony in the state.

He told the Dewan Rakyat that Muslims and non-Muslims in Sarawak have a far better relationship than their counterparts in the Peninsula, where "where religious bigotry and extremism is prevalent".

Chong also argued that there are many qualified Muslims in Sarawak who are qualified to do the job.

Idris said PAS was in good stead despite Chong's outburst because the party was no longer allied with DAP.

"Today, PAS had broken free. We will not shoulder the burden of the liability brought by DAP," said Idris, who is also the Bukit Gantang MP.

In view of the latest developments, Idris urged the public, especially the Malay community, to allow PAS to rule the country.

"This is why we want the Malays to (consider) letting PAS take care of them," he said.
