PAS Youth chief Nik Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz has praised Dewan Rakyat speaker for his "bravery" and "grit" for allowing PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang to table a motion to amend the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965.

He said the postponement of the debate on the motion was a "minor mistake" when taking into account of the fact that Abdul Hadi was allowed to table the motion.

"May Allah provide the highest reward for the Dewan Rakyat speaker for his sincerity, bravery and grit in facing the many obstacles towards the tabling of the motion.

"If postponing the debate was 'considered' a mistake, then it is only 10 percent incorrect, as compared to the 100 percent correctness in allowing the tabling of the motion," wrote Nik Abduh on his Facebook page today.

On Thursday, Pandikar dedicated the entire afternoon session for the tabling of Abdul Hadi's motion, followed by a lengthy seconder speech by Kota Bharu MP Takiyuddin Hassan.

Abdul Hadi proposed that the penalty cap under the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965 be increased to a maximum RM100,000, 30 years' jail and 100 lashes.

The new penalty cap has sparked concern that it would facilitate the enforcement of hudud related laws in Kelantan and Terengganu - the only two states which have laws specifically dealing with hudud-related offences.

'Forget the pain'

During Takiyuddin's speech, several Muslim BN MPs had stated their support for the motion, while two non-Muslim BN MPs sought clarifications, without outright opposing it.

All except one Pakatan Harapan lawmaker kept quiet, hoping to save their materials for the debate. When the Dewan Rakyat was adjourned and the debate on the motion postponed, the Harapan lawmakers cried foul.

They then accused Pandikar of being in cahoots with both the executive and PAS, unnecessarily prolonging the uncertainty over Abdul Hadi's motion for political purposes, by postponing the debate.

However, Nik Abduh believed that Harapan's objections had nothing to do with the postponement, but more to do with the fact that Pandikar allowed Abdul Hadi's to be tabled.

"(With the tabling of the bill), they are unable to justify their claim that PAS was tricked by Umno... when in fact they are the ones who are lying to themselves," he said.

Nik Abduh urged the public to be patient and steadfast because Allah will provide happiness "one at a time".

"Forget the pain. Our calmness will always be part of our struggle. In the end, victory awaits the devout," he said.
