DAP's local councillor Edry Faizal Eddy Yusof said it would be disastrous if municipal councils under the control of Pakatan Harapan took a page out of Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Minister Noh Omar's book and only provided rubbish collection services along partisan lines.

Thankfully, the Selayang Municipal Council member said, this was not a practice by Harapan, which has been fair in providing services and allocations based on need.

"Where there is a need, there will be allocations and assistance channelled (to that area). I believe this is the practice in any municipal councils in states governed by Pakatan Harapan.

"If the municipal councils were to emulate Noh Omar's ugly behaviour and only collect rubbish based on an area's political affiliations, wouldn't it be a disaster?" he said.

Edry Faizal said in the case of the Selayang Municipal Council, the Kuang state seat was won by BN but it still received the same treatment as constituencies won by Harapan.

He was responding to the Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Ministry's move to revoke approval for all local government projects within parliamentary constituencies that BN lost.

This was according to a letter by Local Government Department director general Abu Bakar Johar who claimed that there was a need to "streamline" the projects.

Noh Omar took over the ministry in June last year.

Edry Faizal claimed the move was a desperate attempt by Noh Omar, who is also Selangor BN chief, to capture the state and take over as menteri besar.

'Noh Omar should be punished'

"If this is his attitude, then surely he should be punished in the coming general election," he said.

He said it was up to the people to see which government had distributed wealth equally regardless of political affiliation and who had misused the country's wealth for their own political gain.

Meanwhile, Muhammad Shakir Ameer, a councillor with the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA), condemned what he termed as an "immature" action on the part of the minister.

"The people are all taxpayers and the government should not discriminate based on politics," he said. 

Muhammad Shakir said BN constituencies in Shah Alam were also not discriminated against.

"As an MBSA councillor, I ensure that everyone regardless of political ideology is given the best service as they are taxpayers.

"Services must be rendered regardless of who the government is," said the DAP Youth committee member.

He accused Noh Omar of being "power crazy" and called up the people to reject him.

Sabah DAP publicity secretary Phoong Jin Zhe said the ministry's decision was akin to a segregation policy.

Phoon, who is also a coordinator for the constituency of Luyang, said that even in constituencies won by Harapan, there were also those who voted for BN.

"This policy discriminates them too," he said.

Phoong also urged Kota Kinabalu mayor Yeoh Boon Hai to clarify if any projects under the city council was affected as a result of the ruling, as the area did not vote for BN in the last general election.
