Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali has reminded Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Minister Noh Omar that it is his “moral duty” to ensure allocations for local council projects are distributed fairly.

He also pointed out that Selangor is the main contributor to the national gross domestic product (GDP).

“That is very unbecoming of a minister... He must understand that every single ringgit in Malaysia in his pocket, 25 sen comes from Selangor.

“So it is his moral duty to ensure that this must be distributed in accordance with the law and also must be fair to Selangorians,” Azmin told reporters after attending a Contribution Awards ceremony in Ampang today.

He was responding to Noh who had said on Thursday that the government has had to prioritise BN constituencies since last year because there is not enough funds for projects in all 222 parliamentary constituencies.

It is only after adjustments are made that the allocations can then be distributed to constituencies not won by BN, Noh had explained.

His remarks came after a report that the KPKT ministry had issued a letter dated March 17 instructing the cancellation on BP1 projects - small scale infrastructure projects - in constituencies not held by BN MPs.

Azmin questioned how Noh, who is the Tanjong Karang MP, could do this to Selangor, when he is an MP from the state.

“It is as if Noh is punishing the Selangor citizens,” Azmin said.
