MUKTAMAR | The PAS ulama wing today unanimously agreed to bring bring a motion to the annual general assembly to cut political cooperation with PKR.

The wing’s motion committee chairperson, Khairuddin Aman Razali, however said this decision is pending the syura council’s decision according to the PAS constitution.

“We note that PKR has breached many conditions of political cooperation with PAS so the ulama wing assembly agrees to bring a motion to seek the dissolution of cooperation between PAS and PKR.

The motion was brought by the Perak and Negri Sembilan delegates.

Negri Sembilan delegate Mohd Husaini Husi, when tabling the motion, had urged the wing to give a clear direction on PAS’ relationship with PKR.

He accused PKR of not being a loyal friend to PAS when the party accepted Tumpat MP Kamarudin Jaffar, who had quit PAS.

“My motion is to sever political cooperation with PKR. We have already studied it for three years. Now we need to decide - whether to sever ties or not.

“(PKR) was not upholding the spirit of friendship when they accepted our MP to their party. PAS has been patient but now is not the time to study any more, it’s time to decide,” he told delegates at the party’s muktamar in Alor Setar.

On another matter, PAS syura council secretary Nik Zawawi Nik Salleh reiterated that the highest authority of the party had decided that there would be no cooperation between PAS and Umno-BN.

Zawawi said the current cooperation was between PAS and the federal government and not a cooperation between political parties.

“If we hear voices claiming otherwise, it is a lie.

“We do not have any understanding with Umno and BN.

“It is just that in matured and harmonious politics, we must differentiate between having an understanding with the government and Umno-BN,” he told party delegates.

Zawawi said any decision on political cooperation must conform to Islamic principles.

As such, he said the syura council often deliberates at length when it comes to political cooperation to ensure that they conform to Islam.
