The Pakatan Harapan secretariat has urged Pandikar Amin Mulia to relinquish his position as Dewan Rakyat speaker if he is no longer able to focus on implementing reforms in Parliament.

Apart from this, the secretariat said it is making this call based on Pandikar's previous comment on wanting to return to active politics.

“Although the speaker's appointment is suggested by the ruling party, the speaker must retain his impartiality in order not to side with the ruling party or opposition.

“If Pandikar can no longer focus on reforming parliament and truly wishes to return to active politics, he must resign with immediate effect,” Harapan chief secretary Saifuddin Abdullah told a press conference in Petaling Jaya today.

Prior to his appointment, Pandikar had, among others, served as a minister in the Prime Minister's Department. He was also a former Umno lawmaker in Sabah.

Logo shortlist

Meanwhile, in the same press conference, Saifuddin said that Pakatan Harapan has received 330 submissions for their coalition's logo.

They hope to shortlist 10 of the logos, he said, and solicit feedback from the public.

"Harapan would like to convey our greatest gratitude to all those who were generous enough to send in their logos.

"We will choose about 10 logos and we will get feedback from the masses in a few days.

"After that, we will make our decision on the most suitable logo to be used as Harapan's official logo," he said.

Previously, three proposed logos had received brickbats from netizens, with internationally-renowned artist Yee I-Lann saying the designs "suck rotten eggs".

Pakatan Harapan is choosing a logo with the intention of registering the coalition with the Registrar of Societies (ROS), so that its component parties can contest under one logo in the upcoming general election.
