Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) Youth vice-chief Shazni Munir has been remanded for four days after being arrested, believed to be over a protest against the Election Commission (EC).

The remand order, effective until Tuesday, was issued by the Putrajaya magistrate court today around 10am, said his lawyer and Amanah Youth deputy chief Faiz Fadzil when contacted by Malaysiakini today.

Amanah Youth vice-chief Wan Anwar Wan Ibrahim is also representing Shazni.

The latter is being investigated under Section 341 of the Penal Code, which deals with wrongful restraint.

According to the law, one who wrongfully restrains any person shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to one month, or with fine which may extend to RM1,000 or with both.

Shazni was arrested yesterday and brought to the Putrajaya district police headquarters for questioning.

This follows a protest at the EC headquarters in Putrajaya on May 23 over the commission's decision to stop providing copies of the draft electoral roll.

Protesters from Pakatan Harapan parties' youth and women's wings padlocked the gates of the EC premises when no representative from the commission came out to receive their memorandum.
