Despite PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail's confirmation in June that PKR will vacate all political appointments in the PAS-led Kelantan state government by July, this has not been the case.

Kelantan PKR chief Ab Aziz Ab Kadir told Malaysiakini that the party's political appointees have yet to resign from their posts.

"I can't really answer. The central PKR leadership must give their statement on this. You have to ask her (Wan Azizah)," said Ab Aziz.

Asked on the reason why they were still holding on to their positions, Ab Aziz said they were still part of the Kelantan state government due to "the spirit of consensus in the lead up to the 14th general election".

On whether Kelantan PKR was going against Wan Azizah's instructions by not resigning from their posts, Ab Aziz said: "Only the president can answer".

Wan Azizah, in May, had announced that PKR political appointees will resign from the Kelantan state government.

This, following PAS' decision to cut ties with PKR.

Less than a month later, Wan Azizah said that PKR members holding posts in the Kelantan state government will quit their posts at the end of July.

She had explained that the delayed timeline was due to certain "technicalities".

"The administration of Kelantan does their work quarterly, whatever is their standard operating procedure, they are waiting until middle (of the) quarter, so I think the end of July," she had said, when asked about the deadline for the PKR representatives' resignation from the state government.

Prior to this, Kelantan Menteri Besar Ahmad Yakob had said that none of the PKR political appointees had actually quit despite the directive. The Kelantan government had said that PKR leaders can remain in the state government despite the severing of ties between PAS and PKR.

Likewise, PKR deputy president Azmin Ali, who is also Selangor menteri besar, had also decided to retain PAS in the Selangor government.
