Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak has vowed not to sidestep his responsibilities when relating the challenges he faced with regard to Budget 2018, which is slated to be tabled in October.

Speaking at a forum in Kuala Lumpur this morning, he said his office in Parliament takes on the atmosphere of a “fish market” and all those who step into his room do so with high hopes.

Najib said he is worried about not being able to fulfil all the expectations of those seeking his approval for allocations.

“But this is the challenge I face as prime minister. I will not shirk from my responsibilities and will execute them the best I can for those who still want me to lead this nation,” he added.

Najib also pledged that his government would continue with measures that are fair instead of those which are populists.

"I assure you that we will be a fair government and the government will steer towards a better nation and future.

"We will not be populist just to win favour or support from the people," he added at the forum organised by the National Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (NCCIM).

"The government has engaged various groups, including members of the business community before drafting the Budget 2018," he added.
