Mohammad Redzuan Othman has no qualms ruffling feathers with his survey work despite facing criticism from politicians.

The latest criticism came from PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli, who was sceptical of Redzuan's methodology in the survey he conducted on behalf of Institut Darul Ehsan (IDE) for PKR.

The findings of the survey were the basis on which PKR had decided to continue negotiations with PAS, believing that the latter will be an important electoral partner.

Redzuan, who is now IDE deputy chairperson, said he was also the target of politicians when he conducted critical surveys when he headed Universiti Malaya Centre for Democracy and Elections (Umcedel).

"Since I was Umcedel director, every time I produced a research (paper) there would be those who did not like it.

"In 2013, when I presented our first research paper, amongst those who disputed the results was Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

"During the Kajang by-election, I understood that the then education minister and deputy prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin instructed that I be sacked as Umcedel director.

"So it is normal when I get comments like this, it's okay," he said after presenting another survey on the people's mood ahead of the 14th general election in Shah Alam today.

Redzuan said it was the norm for politicians to only like survey results that favour them.

Yesterday, Rafizi said those within PKR favouring continued talks with PAS had based their decision on Redzuan's research.

However, Rafizi said surveys conducted by Invoke, a research outfit which he founded had yielded opposite results – that Harapan can still win in three-cornered fights with PAS and BN.

When asked about the research conducted for PKR, Redzuan did not deny carrying out the survey and defended its credibility.

"There was indeed a survey (on relations with PAS). It was very detailed," he said.

However, Redzuan said the survey done for PKR was not for public consumption, stating that he wanted to avoid controversy.

He noted that Malaysia, unlike the West, could not accept results that did not favour their own opinions.

In the survey presented today, Redzuan said if Pakatan Harapan and PAS joined forces, the alliance will be able to capture seven states and the federal territory.

On top of maintaining Penang, Selangor and Kelantan, he said the alliance could also capture Kedah, Perak, Pahang and Malacca.
