PAS wants the Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Paul Low to fast-track the tabling and implementation of political financing laws, in order to curb money politics and foreign donations in the upcoming general election.

"This is so the practice of money politics and corruption can be controlled, and to avoid incidents of vote buying.

"This can also avoid incidents such as billions of ringgit in donations from abroad being channelled without being detected," PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said in a statement today.

Low had earlier today said the Political Donations and Expenditure Act (PDEA) will not be ready to be tabled in Parliament before the 14th general election (GE14).

Last year he had said that consultations on the Act would be completed by the end of 2016.

Tuan Ibrahim said the PDEA should be tabled in Parliament at the next sitting, which is in October.

"All the studies and feedback on this Act should have been done already. What is causing the delay?" he said.

The PDEA is one of 32 recommendations by the National Consultative Committee on Political Financing, which is chaired by Low.

The committee was established following revelations that Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak had received US$681 million in his accounts just prior to the 2013 elections.

Najib has said the funds were a donation from the Saudi royal family.

The opposition, however, claims that the funds had originated from 1MDB.
