Pakatan Harapan today declared that it will review contracts signed with foreign firms if it wins in the upcoming general election.

Harapan chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad said this includes contracts involving the country's strategic assets in particular.

Asked later whether Harapan was referring to Chinese investments, Mahathir said any contract that does not benefit the country will be reviewed.

"I believe China itself has cancelled one-sided contracts and other countries have the right to review (contracts)," said Mahathir in a press conference, after chairing the Harapan presidential council meeting at Amanah's headquarters in Kuala Lumpur today.

Following Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's visit to China last year, 14 agreements were signed between the two countries worth RM144 billion.

A deal involving the East Coast Railway Line (ECRL) project worth RM55 billion was among those inked. The ECRL is set to be China's single largest investment in Malaysia.
