The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) are planning to wrap up their corruption probes into FGV and Felda Investment Corporation (FIC) by the end of the month.

"I wish to state here that (for) the probes involving FGV and Merdeka Palace (Hotel and Suites in Kuching), the investigations are almost over, but we still have a little bit to go.

"We will submit the investigation papers together with our recommendations to the Attorney-General's Chambers or the attorney-general," chief commissioner Dzulkifli Ahmad told a press conference at the Masjid Jamek LRT station.

"Insyallah, I believe (we can complete the investigation) by this month. The public prosecutor will then decide if there is case," he added.

The commission initiated its probe into FGV in June after former CEO Zakaria Arshad was given leave of absence, and CFO Ahmad Tifli Mohd Talha along with two other senior management members were suspended.

However, Dzulkifli refused to say if Zakaria was one of the suspects in the investigation.

In July, MACC reopened its probe into FIC’s purchase of a four-star hotel in Kensington, London between 2013 and 2015, which was soon followed by a probe into the purchase of a second hotel, the Merdeka Palace Hotel & Suites in Kuching.

On Aug 15, MACC arrested former FGV chairperson Isa Samad under Section 16 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009, and later declared that the latter was a suspect in the case.

Dzulkifli also declined to comment on MACC’s separate investigation into former Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) chair Annuar Musa over his alleged involvement in the sponsorship of the Kelantan football team, and promised updates at a later date.

On initiating legal action against Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng for describing the detention of state exco Phee Boon Poh as "illegal," Dzulkifli claimed that he is awaiting feedback from the Attonery-General’s Chambers before deciding on how to proceed.
