Putrajaya greenlights 10 new Chinese schools

Putrajaya has given the green-light for the establishment of 10 new Chinese primary schools, while six existing schools with low enrolments will be relocated.

At a special press conference today, Education Minister Mahdzir Khalid said the move was designed to fulfil the demand for such schools.

Also present at the press conference was MCA president Liow Tiong Lai, his deputy Wee Ka Siong, Gerakan president Mah Siew Keong and Gerakan secretary-general Liang Teck Meng. 

Five of the new schools will be located in Johor while the rest will be located in Selangor.

All new schools will be named after famous figures from Malaysia's Chinese community. The 10 new schools are:

SJK (C) Kuek Ho Yao (Mount Austin, Johor Bahru)
SJK (C) Sim Mo Yu (Pasir Gudang, Johor Bahru)
SJK (C) Tun HS Lee (Ulu Tiram, Johor Bahru)
SJK (C) Tan Kah Kee (Iskandar Puteri, Nusajaya)
SJK (C) Cheah Fah (Iskandar Puteri, Nusajaya)
SJK (C) Lee Loy Seng (Bandar Seri Coalfields, Sungai Buloh)
SJK (C) Sunsuria (Sunsuria City, Sepang)
SJK (C) Ong Yoke Lin (Gamuda Cove, Cyberjaya)
SJK (C) Lim Chong Eu (Eco Grandeur, Puncak Alam)
SJK (C) Too Joon Hing (Dengkil, Selangor).

Of the 10 schools, five are named after MCA members. The rest are named after philanthropists, educationists and a company.

Meanwhile, the six schools that will be relocated are:

SJK (C) Poay Chai, Singkir, Kedah to Taman Bukit Indah, Johor
SJK (C) Poi Min, Gopeng, Perak to Puchong Perdana, Puchong
SJK (C) Aik Hua, Kuala Terong, Perak to Kota Seriemas, Negri Sembilan
SJK (C) Ladang Regent, Gemencheh, Negri Sembilan to Bandar Elmina, Selangor
SJK (C) Panching, Kuantan, Pahang to Kota SAS, Pahang
SJK (C) Ladang Grisek, Bukit Gambir, Ledang, Johor to Taman Kota Masai

SJK (C) Ladang Regent and SJK (C) Ladang Grisek would be given new names.
