Three injured after ceiling collapses at Genting's Sentosa casino

At least three people were injured when a ceiling collapsed at Genting's Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) in Singapore on Tuesday morning, Channel NewsAsia reported.

Quoting the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), the report said two people were taken to the Singapore General Hospital conscious, while one was being assessed by paramedics at the scene.

Those hurt had head injuries, abrasions and cuts, SCDF said, adding that they were alerted to the incident at 10.13am.

Channel NewsAsia reported that a ceiling board collapsed during repair works on the ceiling in the casino and those injured were workers doing the repairs.

The mezzanine gaming area of the casino is temporarily closed and will resume operations after a thorough safety inspection is completed.

“Part of the ceiling board leading to the mezzanine gaming area of the casino fell off this morning when the external contractors were carrying out enhancement works,” a spokesperson for RWS said in reply to Bernama’s query via email.

The spokesperson said there were no guests at that area during the incident.

“One security staff and three external contractors sustained minor injuries. All have been discharged after receiving outpatient treatment at the resort’s clinic and hospital.

“The safety of our guests and employees is our top priority,” the spokesperson said.

However, RWS did not disclose the nationalities of those injured.
