Missing activist’s 'Syiah link' scrutinised

The Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (Suhakam) scrutinised activist Amri Che Mat’s ties to Iran and alleged links to Syiah teachings, in the second day of its inquiry into his disappearance.

A police observer told the inquiry that there are no immigration records to show Amri had crossed over into Thailand and back a day before his disappearance.

The Suhakam panel requested the assistance of its fourth witness to locate several other witnesses, who were said to be “afraid to come forward.”

Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng urged the police to amend its standard operating procedures after a “botched” operation during which his legal client resisted plainclothes cops conducting a drugs raid, mistaking them for robbers.

Inspector-general of police Mohamad Fuzi Harun said police will be calling the administrators of tech portal Lowyat.net to assist investigations into a leak of over 220,000 organ donors’ personal data.

Guan Eng vs Wee war rages on

The tit-for-tat between Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng and MCA deputy president Wee Ka Siong over the Penang undersea tunnel issue continued.

Lim accused Wee of issuing contradicting statements on the project, which he said showed that the minister was ignoring the Penang government’s explanations on the matter.

Penang BN chief Teng Chang Yeow called into question the RM236 million difference in figures issued by the state government and a Chinese firm for feasibility studies and detailed designs for the tunnel.

The MACC arrested a fourth individual, a 62-year-old “datuk seri,” in their probe into the project.

Parti Cinta Malaysia vice-president Huan Cheng Guan, a vocal critic of the Penang government, lodged a police report over alleged death threat received via text message from an unknown person.
