Pakatan Harapan chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad has been discharged from the National Heart Institute (IJN).

According to Bernama, the former prime minister was allowed to leave today after spending about a week to seek treatment for a chest infection.

The 93-year-old was admitted to IJN last Friday, resulting in several cancellations of his events for Bersatu, which he chairs, and the opposition coalition.

According to Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin, Mahathir looked "healthy and jovial" during his visit to IJN on Monday, and said even in the hospital, the nonagenarian could not stop talking about the party and the country's future.

"It's just that I gave him a little bit of advice, not that I'm a doctor, but as (party) president. I told him to take some time to rest. There are many other leaders who can manage the party affairs," Muhyiddin told a press conference yesterday.

Mahathir had been on a campaign blitz across the country in recent months as Harapan's prime ministerial candidate.
