Two Federal Highway users were killed when the car they were travelling in hit the pillar of the unused Batu Tiga toll plaza.

According to Bernama, the 12.55am incident was the second fatal crash recorded at the location, after the first one on Jan 15, which killed two and injured another.

Shah Alam district police chief ACP Baharudin Mat Taib said the victims were identified as Fathurezza Khoirul Huda Halimsuyto, 31, and Noor Hidayah Mohamed Rezmi, 27.

He said initial investigations revealed that the car was travelling from Kuala Lumpur to Shah Alam and was believed to have been speeding before losing control and ramming into a pillar of the toll plaza.

“Both victims were believed to be on their way home after celebrating Noor Hidayah’s birthday yesterday, Feb 18.

“Fathurezza Khoirul Huda and Noor Hidayah were confirmed dead at the scene due to severe injuries on several parts of the body and the front part of car was wrecked,” Baharudin told Bernama when contacted today.

The bodies were sent to the Shah Alam Hospital for a post-mortem and the case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Many road users have previously voiced their concern over the risk of accidents on the highway and urged the authorities to expedite the demolition of the Batu Tiga and Sungai Rasau toll plazas which were no longer operating.

However, PLUS Malaysia Bhd, as the responsible entity for the highway, expects the demolition of the two toll plazas to be completed only in late March.

It said that toll equipment, signage and other assets would be taken out first before the demolition of the physical structure begins.

Both the toll plazas ceased operations from Jan 1 following the announcement by Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak during the Budget 2018 presentation in October last year.
