No permit obtained for Harapan's Kamunting gig, say cops

The ceramah by Pakatan Harapan in Kamunting last night was held without a police permit.

Taiping district police chief Mohamad Taib said police also received reports from local residents that the programme held along the main road to Kampung Bukit Jana caused traffic obstruction.

Prior to that, the organiser of the event had been instructed to remove a trailer owned by Harapan, which could be turned into a stage, which was parked in the area.

Besides the trailer, the opposition front also used four-wheel-drive vehicles as mobile stages for its leaders to give their political talks along the route, who included Pakatan Harapan chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yasin, Amanah president Mohamad Sabu and Taiping MP Nga Kor Ming.

The event ended at about midnight with Mahathir as the last speaker.

Bernama estimates a crowd of about 2,000 people, while Harapan claimed that there were about 10,000 people present.
