A 37-year-old unit trust agent who pleaded guilty to 623 counts of sexual offences against his 15-year-old daughter has sought help from the legal aid bureau to help reduce his sentence of 48 years and 24 strokes of the rotan.

This was disclosed today to Kuala Lumpur High Court judge Azman Abdullah.

The court was told the father of three would now be represented by counsel Cyrus Tiu Foo Wei. DPP Nordalina Ali appeared for the prosecution.

Following this, Justice Azman fixed April 25 to hear submissions on reducing the unit trust agent's sentence.

It was reported that the man's 623 charges were read out at the Putrajaya Special Court for Sexual Crimes over a duration of two days last August. He was then not represented.

He then pleaded guilty last September to the 623 charges of committing sodomy and incest and abusing the victim over a period of two years.

Following that, Sessions judge Sessions Court judge Yong Zarida Sazali sentenced the man to 28 years' jail for incest, physical assault and sexual abuse and another 20 years' jail for sodomising the victim.

The sentences are to run concurrently from his date of arrest last July 27.

She also ordered the father to pay RM10,000 in compensation to the victim. Failing to do so would result in him being sentenced to an additional 12 months’ jail.
