A man, believed to be son of Inspector-General of Police Mohd Bakri Omar, was detained by the Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.
It is learnt that he was arrested for allegedly collecting money for the setting up of stalls for the Ramadan month.
It is said the 32-year-old man was arrested in a shopping mall in the city last night after a trader had lodged a report with the agency.
It is believed that a 25-year-old Kuala Lumpur City Hall enforcement officer was also detained.
According to a court official, who declined to be named, the suspect was remanded for three days by Kuala Lumpur magistrate Nazran Mohd Sham this morning.
However, no official confirmation could be obtained.
When contacted this morning, deputy inspector-general of police Musa Hassan said he was not aware of the matter.
According to Bernama , the duo were being investigated under the Anti-Corruption Act for allegedly selling one of the 10 lots of Ramadan stalls they have obtained.
Numerous calls
Meanwhile, Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department M Kayveas, when met at the Parliament building, said he too had received numerous calls regarding the matter.
"I have received many phone calls over this rumour," he said, adding that his department is verifying the case.
Kayveas, whose portfolio includes overseeing the ACA, declined to comment further.
Deputy Internal Security Minister Chia Kwang Chye, when met at the same venue, also claimed to be in the dark over the matter.
Numerous attempts to contact ACA director-general Zulkifli Mat Noor proved futile.
