GE14 | Parti Sosialis Malaysia is claiming that there are dozens of dubious entries in the voter list for the Cameron Highlands parliamentary constituency.

Suresh Kumar, the party's candidate for the seat in the coming general election, said the voter list shows a spike suspicious entries between 2016 and 2017.

In one instance, Suresh showed the media the records of 39 voters, from various ethnic groups, who were registered at a house number '3' in Taman Orchid Deluxe.

"We did a search around Taman Orchid Deluxe and found only two houses with the number 3.

"One is a single-storey house which belongs to a Chinese family, and the other is a double-storey house owned by an Indian," he said.

According to Suresh, homeowners could not confirm the identities of those on the list during his visits.

He said he visited 12 other houses which appeared on the voter list with suspiciously high numbers of voters, including two houses along Jalan Besar Kuala Terla, which were used as the addresses for 31 people and 26 people respectively.

Suresh claimed that although the homeowners verified that these people did not stay at their houses, they were reluctant to lodge a complaint.

These irregularities, he added, led PSM to believe that there was a concerted effort to move voters from outside the constituency to Cameron Highlands, which BN won with a slim majority in the 2013 general election.

Suresh also pointed out that the voter list also showed that there were 925 first time voters in the list who were aged 36 to 50 years, and 542 newly registered voters who are aged 51 to 65.

This figure, he said, was suspiciously high.

"All these years they did not register and why are they now suddenly deciding to register?" he asked.

According to lawyer P Taneswaran, Section 9(A) of the Election Act 1958 makes it impossible to challenge the integrity of the voter list through the courts, now that it has already been gazetted.
