PAS has challenged its former vice president Mahfuz Omar to lodge a report with the MACC if he has proof the party had received funds from Umno.

"If he feels what he says is right, and there are elements of corruption, I challenge him to make a report to MACC," PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan said.

He said the onus to prove an allegation rests with the accuser, meaning that PAS need not entertain the claims.

“It's not for us to deny, but for him to prove it,” he said when taking questions from reporters at Hotel De Palma, Shah Alam last night.

Mahfuz was reported yesterday naming three Terengganu PAS leaders whom he alleged had received funds from Umno.

The Pokok Sena MP, who quit PAS at the beginning of the year, claimed RM1.5 million had been deposited into a central PAS office.

Mahfuz claimed he had taken the matter up with officers at PAS' headquarters in Kuala Lumpur , and they had purportedly confirmed the funds had been deposited into the said office's account.

Hadi: Mahfuz childish

At the same press conference, PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang addressed the allegation by making a joke.

He said Mahfuz' allegations didn't make sense, as PAS was fielding candidates against Umno.

“Would Umno give us money to fight them? We are fielding 130 candidates, and many are in Umno areas, not DAP.

“So is Umno giving money to run against Umno? Think of something more sensible,” he said.

However, the party chief said they are not likely to sue Mahfuz as it would be immature.

“I feel it's childish… we would be stupid to entertain it.

“PAS taking money from Umno to contest against Umno, how clever,” he said.

RM1m 'too little'

Meanwhile, Terengganu PAS deputy commissioner Satiful Bahari Mamat challenged Mahfuz to show proof of his allegations, and also challenged him to lodge a report.

Satiful, who is Paka assemblyperson, in a video of a press conference last night debunked Mahfuz' claims as senseless as the amount wouldn't amount to much.

“This one million for three persons, if we were to split it we couldn't even buy a car (each),” he was shown in the video saying.

He echoed his party leaders in saying the onus was on Mahfuz to prove his allegations.
