Selangor Umno today dubbed the act by caretaker state menteri besar Azmin Ali, of taking "Grab" home after handing in his official car following the dissolution of the state assembly, as a gimmick.
Selangor Umno deputy information chief Mat Nadzari Ahmad Dahlan told Malaysiakini that Azmin was merely trying to court public attention with his "stunt".
"Maybe he has nothing else to do. People are talking about the future, he (Azmin) is only good at attracting attention by committing stunts," he said when contacted.
Azmin and his fellow Selangor state executive councillors returned their official cars this morning, as part of the ceremony to dissolve the state assembly, and is in line with the recognition that the PKR-led Pakatan Harapan administration is now a caretaker government.
The incumbent Bukit Antarabangsa assemblyperson reportedly joked that he would be going home using the Grab car service after the ceremony.
The matter was tweeted by Channel News Asia, which was then retweeted by Azmin.
Commenting further on the matter, Mat Nadzari said a leader's performance is not judged by "handing in cars".
"Usually, only people who are angry, disappointed or rebelling will do stunts like this," he added.
