GE14 | Former Johor DAP chief Dr Boo Cheng Hau is adamant that he will not contest in the parliamentary seat of Labis and indicated that he may not participate in the 14th general election as a result.

"I was dropped when I was forced to leave Skudai. It is because I have already mentioned many times that I won't go to Labis," he told Malaysiakini when contacted.

Boo was asked to respond to DAP Johor chief Liew Chin Tong who told his predecessor to reconsider his refusal to contest in Labis. 

Yesterday, the DAP central leadership announced that Boo's incumbent seat of Skudai would be handed over to Tan Hong Pin, who is the incumbent Mengkibol assemblyperson. 

Boo said he had previously already conveyed his reason for refusing to contest in Labis.

"I advised him (Liew) not to waste time. I will not contest in an area where I did not service before just for the sake of contesting," he said.

Boo said the DAP central leadership should have respected the Gelang Patah division's decision when it endorsed for the status quo to be maintained in the parliamentary seat of Gelang Patah and state seat of Skudai.

Liew, who is the incumbent Kluang MP, had also chosen to move to another parliamentary seat as part of an attack on MCA constituencies in Johor.

He will take on MCA deputy president and three-term incumbent Wee Ka Siong in Ayer Hitam.

Wee had won the Ayer Hitam seat with a 7,310-vote majority in the last general election.

MCA's Chua Tee Yong, meanwhile, only won the Labis seat with a narrow 353-vote majority.
