GE14 | Four men were injured when they came into contact with a high tension wire while trying to put up party flags in Muar yesterday, New Straits Times reported.

The incident reportedly occurred about 1am at Kampung Parit Yusof when a group of 10 men were trying to place the flags on the high electrical line, using a bamboo pole. 

As they attempted to lift the pole, four of them suffered electrical shocks and were thrown several metres away. 

One of the victims reportedly sustained a rib injury while three others escaped with minor injuries. 

Muar district police chief Zaharudin Rasip confirmed the incident.

Last month, Tenaga Nasional Bhd advised parties against putting up party flags and posters TNB posts, cables, power supply boxes, substations and other electrical installations.

Its chief corporate officer Roslan Ab Rahman, said people putting up election campaign materials at these places faced the risk of electrocution or they could trigger flashovers that could trip the power supply.

“This dangerous activity violates Section 37 of the Electricity Supply Act 1990 (Act 447) on damage to electrical installations,” Roslan said.
