GE14 | Caretaker Johor menteri besar Khaled Nordin is making a return to the Pasir Gudang parliamentary seat for the 14th general election, as well as defending his Permas state seat.

This was confirmed in an announcement made at the Johor Umno headquarters this morning.

Khaled contested Pasir Gudang in the 2004 and 2008 elections, beating out PKR candidates both times with a sizeable majority.

However, he was moved to the state seat of Permas in 2013, with Normala Abdul Samad taking his place in the parliamentary constituency.

Though Normala beat out PKR's Ahmad Faidhi Saidi, the margin was reduced significantly to just 935.

BN will contest a total of 26 parliamentary and 56 state seats in Johor for the coming polls.

Of these, Umno will contest 16 parliamentary and 35 state seats, MCA eight parliamentary and 15 state seats, MIC one parliamentary and four state seats, and Gerakan one parliamentary and two state seats.

“Of the 20 parliamentary seats won by the BN in the 13th general election, 15 incumbents are retained, while two incumbents, namely in Pasir Gudang and Kota Tinggi have been dropped.

“Incumbent Sekijang MP Anuar Manap moves to Kemelah, incumbent Tebrau MP Khoo Soo Seang, does not want to contest, and Halimah Mohamed Sadique moves from the Tenggara to Kota Tinggi parliamentary seat,” Khaled said.

Khaled also pointed out that of the 82 candidates in total, nine are from Wanita Umno, and one from the Puteri wing.

This includes newcomer Haliza Abdullah, the Batu Pahat Wanita Umno chief, who takes the place of Special Affairs Department (Jasa) director-general Mohd Puad Zarkashi, who was surprisingly left out of the lineup.

Making a comeback, meanwhile, is Kluang MCA chair Gan Ping Sieu.

Gan won the Mengkibol state seat in the 2004 election, but lost the seat in the following election. He was not fielded in 2013.
